Jerl Lee Amos
1929 - 2000




Jerl Lee Amos was born February 16, 1929 at Lavaca, Sebastian Co., Ar. to Jefferson & Corine Shaver Amos. He married Wilma K. Khilling of Lavaca in 1951.

He served in the Korean War and was seriously injured in a missile strike while in South Korea. He was awarded the Purple Heart.

Jerl passed away June 26, 2000 at Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., AR. His burial was in Hickory Ridge Cemetery at Lavaca, Sebastian Co., Ar.

Jerl L. Amos, 71, of Lavaca died Monday, June 26, 2000, in a Fort Smith hospital. He retired as an employee of the Whirlpool Corp. and was a veteran and Purple Heart and Bronze Star recipient during the Korean War. He was a deacon and charter member of the First Baptist Church on Arkansas 96

Funeral was at Smith Mortuary Chapel of Charleston with burial at Hickory Ridge Cemetery, northwest of Lavaca. He is survived by his wife, Wilma; one son, Dale of Willis, Texas; one sister, Loy Louise Freeland of Fort Smith; and two nephews, Gary Hays and Michael Freeland, both of Fort Smith.
